Engaged Classrooms and Large Outdoor Learning Environments

Consistently across all of our classrooms, our professional Lead Educators utilise an emergent curriculum based upon the National Quality Standards and the Early Years Learning Framework. We cater for ages ranging from six weeks to school age.

We recognise that children have a natural sense of curiosity and each one has unique talents, capabilities and aspirations. Our Cairns Kids community nurtures these characteristics as we provide a stimulating, healthy and caring environment where children can flourish in their development.

The centre is fully air-conditioned and each classroom is designed to cater specifically for each age group and activities appropriate for the childrens developmental stages.

Cairns Kids is committed to maintaining an outdoor environment, with emphasis on the use of natural materials to promote a sense of wonder and an understanding of the natural world, with the purpose of supporting our children in developing an understanding of sustainability.

Kindergarten
4 years to school age

We provide the Government approved Kindergarten program delivered by a degree qualified Early Childhood Teacher. In doing this we are ensuring our children are heading off to Prep with all of the skills required to be fully prepared to succeed on every level.

Through structured play, children learn to negotiate, cooperate, create, imagine, solve problems, discuss ideas with others, investigate, explore, develop literacy and numeracy and connect with others - including the wider community.

The focus is on ensuring that children have a basic understanding of the elements needed to be successful at school including appropriate social, organisational and problem-solving skills.

Play will always remain the main focus of our Kindergarten timetable, as we continue to support, develop and extend your child's individualism, interests, ideas and creativity.

At the end of the year, our Kindergarten Teacher will complete a 'Transition Statement', which highlights the achievements of your child during the year. This helps school teachers to better understand your child and begin to plan for their individual needs right from day one.

Senior Kindy
3 to 4 years

Senior Kindy is a stimulating and exciting classroom where children are increasingly interested in exploring the world around them. Play is an important way for children to learn social ideals including sharing and being responsive and compassionate to others.

Play is embedded in the Early Learning Years Framework and is catered for in this classroom. Activities are stationed throughout the room to offer a range of experiences that encourage small-group interactions, individual play, and large-group interactions.

The Educators ensure children's interests are followed through discussion with the children and their parents. These discussions are then extended on and used in the daily programming. When a child's interests are being followed it creates a sense of belonging which, in turn, creates a warm, friendly and encouraging atmosphere for the room.

Junior Kindy
2.5 to 3 years

Our Junior Kindy room is a free flowing, fun environment for children to explore. This room is where the toddlers make their big step up from one side of the centre to the other.

This transition is made easy by the constant communication between Educators and outstanding orientation systems in place to give the children the time they need to adjust to their new surroundings.

At this stage, the children are starting to gather interesting language skills and are further developing their social and emotional characteristics.

The Early Learning Years Framework guides the programming for this room and ensures that children are able to participate in developmentally appropriate activities that extend their learning and knowledge base.

This room encourages parental participation through great communication and ease of access to the Educators.

Toddlers 2

This spacious, inviting room encourages a calm atmosphere. The routines established in our Toddler 1 classroom are consolidated here as children become increasingly capable of participating in more difficult activities.

The Educators work within the guidelines of the Early Learning Years Framework and focus on the learning outcomes through teacher led and child led learning activities.

New routines are established in this classroom; at the same time flexibility is given to ensure all children are happy and comfortable. The Educators spend a lot of time communicating with parents in order to learn more about the children in their care and use this information to extend on their interests and create activities that are meaningful to them.
